FareShare

Volunteers at a FareShare Collection

The lead partner,CFINE, has the franchise through FareShare UK to operate FareShare Grampian. FareShare is a national scheme whereby supermarkets’/food producers’ surplus produce is collected and distributed to people in food poverty, for example, facilities for people who are homeless and women who have experienced domestic abuse. FareShare produce also supports the work of the Food Banks Partnership Aberdeen.

Since inception, in the first 6-7 years of operation, c700 tonnes (saving 350 tonnes of carbon emissions) of produce was distributed through partner organisations to people in food poverty. Over 2014/15, 120 tonnes (saving 60 tonnes of carbon emissions) of produce was distributed, a significant increase representing FareShare UK’s and the food industry’s commitment to contributing to tackling food poverty. It is anticipated that this growth will continue over the next period.

FareShare is a key donor of produce to CFINE’s and partners food banks and along with the fantastic donations from food drives and the general public, we are able to service and support our beneficiaries but NB we can always use more!

You can donate via the CFINE website, or alternatively at the office: 2 Poynernook Road, Aberdeen, AB11 5RW
